Tomekia E. Moore
Tomekia E. Moore is dedicated to serving by example and encouraging individuals to live their best life. Starting her educational journey as a Pre-K assistant to watch over her son in the Chattanooga Public School System, which later turned into the Hamilton County Department of Education, she has seventeen years experience as an educator. Tomekia is the mother of three beautiful children, one boy, and two girls. She is also the grandmother to five grandchildren.
Her first passion was medicine. While completing high school with a one year old son, she enrolled at Chattanooga State for Pre-Med courses. Tomekia obtained her CNA certification during high school, managing to become the top student in her class. Her classroom success was a catalyst for her ability to begin training others in her field for things such as house competitions that would lead them to first place awards. After high school, Tomekia began working in geriatrics. During this time frame, she realized she did not want to complete her Pre-Med course and pursued a degree in Technology instead.

It was this degree that led Tomekia into the classroom, and it was this degree that opened her eyes to a new world of passions. Working with children as a Paraprofessional in the PreK classroom gave her a desire for a life she had not realized. Tomekia moved to and worked in Georgia for 2 years doing the same type work.
While in GA, Tomekia's oldest daughter became severely ill with Type One Juvenile Diabetes. From this point, Tomekia learned to be her advocate and spokesperson. She fought for her daughter's rights under the Disability Act and Special Education to ensure she would be taken care of regardless of wherever she may have been. Although her daughter dealt with a major sickness, it did not slow her down. Tomekia learned about the 504 plan and the gifted program. This increased Tomekia's passion to help other children.
After returning to Tennessee, she obtained a position at Hardy Elementary spending countless hour sifting through lesson plans to develop a cross-curriculum lab that incorporated all subject areas. Later, Tomekia obtained an additional degree in hopes of being accepted as part of the Teacher's Fellows Program. However, the program had ended by the time she graduated.
Tomekia continued to overcome obstacles in her life. Her youngest daughter was diagnosed with the same illness as her older daughter at age four. With her extensive knowledge about the disease, she was able to catch it before it progressed for the worst. This caused Tomekia to be the advocate of both daughters health and education. She maintained her both her daughters’ health while attempting to maintain a stable home environment, work environment, and GPA.
